Last year I managed to get several playtest games to the table, both ones that I ran and a few that I got to play in as run by others. I’ve got a few once a month games that look pretty solid for most of 2025. Finally, I’m getting close to the end of one campaign and one ‘season’. With this in mind, I know that I will have at least two games that are NOT D&D hitting the table this year. But I also have a stack of TTRPGs that have sat unused for a couple of years, including a few that I backed the start up of and I really want to try to get these out as a one shot if nothing else.
- GOAL #1 – FINISH ONE STORY ARC
It’s not the biggest goal, but after having a recent multi-year campaign fizzle on the final chapters, I’m putting a priority on hitting a good finish for something this year. I’d like to think I did a good finale and epilogue for the Shadows of the Dragon Queen (Tyranny of Dragons with plenty of home crafted content involving fey and giants) and want to have the opportunity to do so again, ending with a mighty bang instead of a slow drawn out fizzle …
- GOAL #2 – 2 NEW TTRPGs
I really want to get some of those other games to the table like Pirate Borg, some Powered by the Apocalypse mystery game like Brindlewood Bay or Monster of the Week, and maybe even some form of Gumshoe. So I’m going to be mindful about targetting the right table with these.
- GOAL #3 – 3 NON D&D ONE SHOTS
This overlaps some with the previous goal, but one shots are often the best way to introduce a new game without the dread of commiting to an entire story arc. Running a one shot in itself is a skill I need to develop more and not get caught up in trying to build entire worlds for what should be 4-6 hours of game time. Plus, I backed a lot of projects for Mothership last November.
- GOAL #4 – WRITE 4 THINGS FOR SELLING
This is a big one. I did a couple of pretty basic Pay What You Want or less than a dollar products a few yeaers back and a few have actually sold (yay!). I write enough home crafted material for my games. Perhaps it’s time to try to put some effort forth and put them on the market. During the #Dungeon23 challenge I did a few 5-10 room dungeons that might be worthwhile if I spend some time polishing them up. I don’t expect to get rich, but it would help pay for some of the product I get off DriveThruRpg and itch.io …
