My board game goals are normally to try out at least 10 games new to me and 10 games that I haven’t played for at least 2 years. I’m changing it slightly for this year for a couple of reasons.
Reason #1 – Family Visit: I’ve got four very eager gamer nephews that I got to visit with over the Christmas break. Over a two week period we played over 20 games. I had already hit my 2024 goals before the trip and smashed the 10 new to me during the trip.
Reason #2 – Keeping track of games that I haven’t played for 2+ years was … challenging so I’m looking to simplify it a bit.
GOALS
- 10+ Games New to Me between January 10 and December 31 2025.
I’m considering putting expansions and variations in their own category but my goals, my interpretations. i.e. Wrath of the Lich King is significantly different from Pandemic even with the same mechanics but Pandemic Legacy Season 1 really just builds on the existing game. Pandemic Legacy Season 2 did have a significantly different feel to it with the changing of the board and different objectives for win conditions so it would be a maybe. - 10+ Games that I didn’t play in 2024.
Until I set up a spread sheet to track all of this, just checking if I listed it in my little journal of games is easy for checking last year. Meanwhile, I’ve got some games that need to be taken out more often. - Find a listing system that works for me.
I need something simple that won’t taking up those many valuable hours that I could be spending on game prep. Or at least get better at quick 30 minute write ups to say I liked a game or not.
Let the Games begin!
