“Sheet upon sheet of clinging webs drape from every surface like silk curtains. No sound louder than a whisper manages to escape from the mouth of the cave, swallowed whole. All things are connected and fate draws you closer, a thread connecting to events unknown to you. Soon you shall discover what lies within from one sensitive to such things …”

An encounter with an oracle, perhaps

• A blind oracle with clever fingers that feel the pull and tug of Fate as woven into the Cave and equally quick to catch buzzing insects and careless adventurers
• Part human hag that has the key to a future event
• Confronting that which a character fears and what they hope for

The Trope shows up all over pop culture and classic mythology, from things Jedi find in caves (Empire Strikes Back & The Last Jedi) to the Fates who weave the strands of individual lives or even the single eyed oracles from Clash of the Titans. Self awareness to arm one against the future discovered in a liminal place, the metaphoric web made physical and oppressive, hinting at the danger of becoming entangled even as the hero attempts to gain secret knowledge. It is a place of darkness, risk, and ultimately revelations.

Most importantly, at what cost is that knowledge gained? From defeating a guardian or risking a different sort of death or even a great sacrifice, there are plenty of options for the inventive and drama focused player.
