“Tufts of hair still cling to the diseased skull of the thing clutching the carved lectern, foul words forming on withered lips, blind eyes scanning forbidden text, following fingers that probe the vellum pages for their secrets. A single harsh syllable escapes it’s throat, expanding to envelop the room with a fist of flame …”

There isn’t much that hasn’t been done with spell casters in TTRPGs, and the BORG-VERSE characteristically brings an eldritch cost to each incantation. Having more in common with the villains of Clark Ashton Smith and Robert E. Howard than Gandalf and Elminster, sinister and cursed figures.

The high cost of magic – Blackwolf from Wizards

For PirateBorg, I borrowed something from ShadowDark and a little Call of Cthulhu. The house rule at our table is that for the first attempt at a ritual in a day, you can still make it happen that one time for the day but automatically suffer the consequences of a Mystic Mishap. As the Apocalypse creeps ever closer, the forces behind those rituals are ever closer to being unleashed in their fullest form into this world, pushing their way through the unfortunate conduits tapping into that power.
