Frog – Plague of the Fear Frogs

Image: Frogman (2023)

“They came as a hideous wave of thumb sized pale frogs, spilling forth from the bubbling birthing pool, a squirming mass chirping in a riotous cacophony. Soon they engulfed Phillipe, his flailing quickly turning to mere twitching as his skin was poisoned by those numberless spawn. Their skin was paralytic, and contact with one would be enough to briefly numb a small hungry predator, but multiplied into a living carpet was enough to fell a grown man. It was small mercy that Phillipe could give no scream as those miniature jaws tore away at their first meal …”

HP: 1 / 8 (single / swarm) Morale: 7 No Armor

Paralytic Touch: Test TOUGHNESS 6 / 14 (single / swarm) or be numbed after a single fail, paralyzed after a second failure; the effect lasts for d6 x 10 minutes. During paralysis, the target experiences (d6):
1-3 Euphoria 4-5 Hallucinations 6 Terror
Harvested Toxin 50s/dose

It’s mostly a reskin of the palm viper, mixed with the idea of the poison dart frogs. On their own, not really dangerous but in a horde they can incapacitate for a slow meal of the unfortunate crew. Somewhere between a rat swarm and an insect swarm, still the notion of being covered in hundreds of tiny feet and jaws while losing the ability to move, barely even able to breath, well, it’s unsettling.

*I’ve been pretty slack at completing most of these “do a thing a day” challenges, usually getting caught up in all the crunchy details and a not too short essay on a thing. This time, I’m giving myself permission to keep it short, rough, and even unfinished while focusing in on the creativity and the thematic feel of the Borg-Verse. In the back of my head, I’ll be focusing more on Pirate Borg as that’s the game I’ve got at the table currently.
