A made for streaming murder mystery with a dynamite cast, how could I not watch this?

The Pitch

Four senior citizens with a ‘hobby’ of solving cold cases finds themselves with a hot case that affects their home. Working on the sly with a recently transferred police officer, they might uncover more than they bargained for.

With names like Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsly, David Tennant, and Tom Ellis, I was sold from the start. Brosnan and Kingsly have a delightful chemistry of tough guy and prim scholar, Mirren tough as nails with a shady background, and Tom Ellis (whom I knew only from Lucifer so it was neat to hear something closer to his native accent) as the caring son with secrets of his own, plus lots of other characters with quirks of their own. DI Hudson (played by Daniel Mays) of course wants nothing to do with the ‘meddling old timers’ but finds himself needing their information. Not comepletely inept but enough to give the rookie De Freitas (Naomi Ackie) and the meddlers space to uncover the needed clues.

It checked my boxes for providing enough evidence for a final accusation and conclusion, with some red herrings but nothing completely out there. I’d classify it as a cozy murder, with running bits like the cake keeping it light and the violence off screen. As a bonus, I found out it was but book one of a series by Richard Osman (a name I only knew from Taskmaster) so I’m eager to see if there will be more adaptations made.
