In no way do I deny the less than subtle tributes / inspirations / parodies represented by these Company factions, but when you look at the source materials of dystopic xenophobic cybernetic futures (Robocop, Starship Troopers, Alien, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, etc.) there is no shortage of commentary woven into the fiction. On a related note, I highly recommend The Android’s Dream by John Scalzi. It has a tongue firmly stuck in cheek in a sci fi political conspiracy romp, skewing more towards Red Shirts than Old Man’s War.

Galactic Dynamics

“The Future is in Our Hands”

Primary Focus:

Originally rooted in biomedical research, the Company has expanded into multiple related fields including cybernetics, experimental energy research, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, robotics, telecommunications, and transportation.

Background:

Founded originally in the late 20th century by science innovators William Book and Walter Priest, the company has undergone many changes over the years. B&P Meditech (as it was initially named) was created around a breakthrough in neural linkage between electronics and human brains. Their early financial success came about with multiple military contracts aimed at assisting wounded military personnel and funded development of robotic field applications. By the start of the 21st century, the company rebranded itself as Global Dynamics and began expanding into more theoretical research, in an effort “to power the world and cure it’s ills, creating solutions for this century and the next.”

As the century moved on, so did the Company move on it’s promise. Buoyed by the practical applications of their cybernetics, robotics, and pharmaceutical inventions, other divisions focused on the problems of alternative energy sources and the health of the planet. It was this work by the exotic energy development team that led to the Zero Point Jump Engines that would start humanities first faster than light ships, a giant step into the larger galaxy. Even as other mega-corporations were quick to follow with their own jump engines, the Company renamed themselves once more as Galactic Dynamics, never letting anyone forget who was first.

Goals:

  • There is no question as to the advantage that the Company established with space travel. The key to the next discovery that will change humanity may just be one jump away.
  • Well known for delving into the stranger aspects of physics and biology, no doubt acquisition of alien technology would be a priority for any expedition.

Rumors:

  • The Company has been conducting experiments in human psionics for generations, watching and waiting to see the fruition of a reliable and controllable psychic.
  • Financially secure with it’s numerous patents and long standing contracts, the Company has been free to throw a vast amount of money into what others would call radical and even insane, leading to some truly abnormal discoveries that they are eager to keep covered up.
  • Within the Company, a cabal of scientists driven mad by their repeated encounters with Zero Space are plotting to open gateways to allow eldritch horrors to come through into this universe.
